In our earlier article, we have seen some of the specialty certifications in medical coding that prove the proficiency of medical coders in a specific area of specialization. In this article, we shall see some more medical coding specialty certifications that one can earn.

CPCD (Certified Professional Coder in Dermatology Credential) – The coders who have sufficient experience in dermatology medical coding jobs can appear for this credential. This exam tests the ability read and comprehend the operative notes so as to apply the correct codes related to ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS level II and modifier coding. The exam also covers the evaluation and management of the Documentation Guidelines) and rules and regulations of Medicare billing. Also, this exam requires that the coders should have adequate knowledge regarding the codes related to the procedures performed by the dermatologists.

CEDC (Certified Emergency Department Coder Credential) – For this credential, those people in medical coding jobs with experience and expert knowledge of the emergency department are encouraged. This certification exam also covers the evaluation and management of the Documentation Guidelines) and rules and regulations of Medicare billing. Along with these, the knowledge of coding related to procedures performed by emergency department physicians like thoracentesis, foreign body removal, moderate sedation etc. is required for this credential.

CEMC (Certified Evaluation and Management Coder Credential) – Those coders who are experienced in evaluation and management coding are encouraged to appear for this credential. This test evaluates on the knowledge of coding per NCCI, ICD-10-CM, CPT Modifiers and the Documentation Guidelines along with the risk assessment.

CFPC (Certified Family Practice Coder Credential) – Candidates with experience in family practice coding can appear for this credential and their knowledge on the coding of ancillary procedures and minor surgical procedures that are part of family medicine practice along with the knowledge of coding per NCCI, ICD-10-CM, CPT Modifiers and the Documentation Guidelines are tested.

CGIC (Certified Gastroenterology Coder Credential) - Candidates with experience in gastroenterology coding and coding of surgical procedures related to gastroenterology are evaluated on Documentation Guidelines together with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II coding for this credential.

CSFAC (Certified Surgical Foot and Ankle Coder Credential) – This credential tests the ability to correctly code ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II codes, modifiers, knowledge of medical billing rules and regulations, knowledge of coding foot and ankle surgical procedures together with the Documentation Guidelines.

CGSC (Certified General Surgery Coder Credential) – This credential evaluates the coding knowledge of surgical procedures performed by general surgeons along with the ability to understand the operative notes to code according to ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS Level II and modifier codes.
CHONC (Certified Hematology and Oncology Coder Credential) – This test evaluates on the knowledge of surgical procedures coding related to hematology and oncology including the chemotherapy administration, hydration services etc. The other things covered in this test are evaluation and management of Documentation Guidelines and ability to read and code the physician office and operative notes.

CIMC (Certified Internal Medicine Coder) – Coding specialists who are proficient in coding the physician office and operative notes, evaluation and management of Documentation Guidelines together with the coding of ancillary and minor surgical procedures related to internal medicine can appear for this credential.
